Big Catches, Bigger Stories

At Long Cove, the fish stories are big—and they’re all true. With four stocked ponds and the open waters of Cedar Creek Lake, anglers of all ages can reel in largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill. And with Cedar Creek Lake stretching 18 miles long, 8.5 miles wide, and reaching depths of 53 feet, there’s always plenty of room to cast a line and make your next great catch.

Shumate Pond

Perched at the top of a hill near Founders Row, Shumate Pond holds some of the most mature fish in Long Cove. Expanded multiple times over the years, it’s a prime spot for anglers looking to reel in Texas bass and rainbow trout. With its elevated location and history of thriving fish populations, it’s a consistent Long Cove favorite.

Preacher's Pond

If you’re looking for record-breaking bass, Preacher’s Pond is where you want to cast your line. Stocked with Floridian bass—known for growing even larger than Texas bass—this pond could hold the biggest catch on Cedar Creek Lake. It’s also home to some of the most catchable bluegill, making it a favorite for both seasoned anglers and young fishermen alike.

Bluegill Pond

As the largest and deepest pond at Long Cove, Bluegill Pond is built for those who love a fight on the line. Stocked with bluegill and sunfish—some of the hardest-fighting fish in Texas—this pond is a thrill for anglers of all levels. It’s also home to Sphaira, a striking steel orb sculpture by Texas artists Craig and Jan Blackmon, celebrating geometry and the joy of human connection.

Wilbur’s Pond

A hidden gem for easy catches, Wilbur’s Pond is known for its thriving fish habitat and stunning lily pads that bloom in the spring. With a peninsula perfect for casting, it’s one of the easiest places at Long Cove to reel in a nice-sized bass. Whether you’re here for the scenery or the fish, Wilbur’s Pond offers a peaceful, productive spot to drop a line.

Hippeau Pond

Small in size, big in character. Hippeau Pond is home to a variety of fish and one special resident: Hippeau, a bronze hippo sculpture by Texas artist David Iles. Tucked near the Proving Grounds, this intimate fishing spot is perfect for a quick cast or a quiet moment with Long Cove’s unique blend of art and nature.
